Colleen move to Alaska with her husband in 2002 to have fun and find adventure...we haven't been disappointed.
She began mushing in 2003 by handling for 1984 Iditarod champ Dean Osmar. Three years later she started her own kennel.
Colleen is a veteran of the Yukon Quest, Iditarod and many mid-distances races. She has won the 2010 Gin Gin 200 and 2008 Chatanika 200, but prides herself not on the races she’s won, but how well she has cared for her dogs throughout every race they compete in. It's how you play the game, not just who wins in her opinion, and Colleen has received the Humanitarian Award from several races, including most recently the 2011 T200.
Colleen says she enjoys trying to bring out the best in her dogs. Even if we don't win, if I can get my dogs to peak during a race, do their best the whole way, and enjoying doing it the entire time, then I am a happy musher.
